About Lansing

Lansing, Michigan's first taste of the AAABA tournament was against host Johnstown on Opening Night in 1979. Javier Cavazo's Downtown Optimist team showed no fear of the large crowd and won the game 10-8. Lansing later upset Washington 7-2, and finished the tournament in 5th place at 3-2.

Their first year in competition was 1978 which ended with a winless Livonia Regional, but the club was 5 games in 2 tournaments thereafter. In 1985, Cavazo's VanderVorts again placed 5th, including 2 wins over New York City. In 1990, Goad Realty also placed 5th, this time with two wins over Maryland State. It was the third and last time the franchise would win 3 games in a tournament.

Beginning in 1993, the predominant sponsor for the Lansing team was Carl's Supermarket, led by manager John Wilcox and later Andy Joseph. Lansing compiled a 12-26 record in that time with 5 top-ten finishes. In 2009, Lansing won their final game in Johnstown, eliminating Youngstown 6-3 at Point Stadium. They fell to New Orleans later that day 14-3. After a 3rd place finished at the 2010 Zanesville Regional, Lansing was given a direct bid to Johnstown in 2011. However, citing a lack of players, the franchise withdrew its bid and has not competed in the AAABA since.
