About Chicago-South Shore

In 1994, the Windy City added a second franchise which took the name of South Shore. Their AAABA existence started with a bang as they trounced Lansing 20-10 in 7 innings at the Altoona regional. However, they fell 13-12 to Philadelphia and 9-6 to Livonia and failed to qualify that year.

South Shore was winless in 1996, both losses by 10 runs. After not competing in 1997, the team lost in regionals in 1998 and 1999. Two direct bids in 2000 and 2001 both ended with winless, last place finishes in which they were outscored 46-10.

South Shore did manage regional runner-up performance in Zanesville in 2001 and 2004, but have not managed a win in AAABA since then with only sparse participation. In intracity battles, South Shore has lost both games to Chicago-Metropolitan (15-5 in 1996 and 16-2 in 2011).

One big problem for the Chicago side has been a sporadic participation record that has prevented the club from establishing themselves in the association. The team competed in 1994 to 1996 but not in 1997. They returned from 1998 through 2002 but only had 2 national tournament appearances before sitting out in 2003.

In 2013, the Satchel Paige All Stars returned to Johnstown for the first time in 6 years, but again exited winless. Despite the lack of on-field success, the team did earn the Sportsmanship Award.
