Host Altoona Johnston Realty swept through three games to win the 2013 Altoona Regional. Runner-up Ohio Glaciers from Youngstown advance to the national tournament in Johnstown along with the Altoona team.
Columbus was the first time eliminated after losing their lead late in the game against New York. The Long Island club scored twice in extra innings to advance to Saturday where they entered a rematch with the Philadelphia Bandits.
Although the Bandits won the first match against New York on Friday by 1 run, they dropped a 1-run game to host Altoona later that afternoon. In the rematch, Long Island rallied late in the game to take over a close game and held on to win 7-4. The win moved New York into the semi-finals.
Youngstown won their opening game against Columbus, also by scoring runs late to extend their lead in what had been a close game. On Saturday, Youngstown lost to host Altoona which dropped them into the losers' bracket where they faced New York. The New Yorkers appeared to be off-and-rolling after scoring 2 quick runs in the top of the first, but then allowed 7 unearned runs to Youngstown in the bottom of the first as the Ohioans jumped in front 8-2. The final score was 12-5 and secured Youngstown a spot in the national tournament.
On Sunday, Altoona faced Youngstown for a second time, but this time for the regional championship. The hosts scored early and often as they routed the Glaciers 15-1 in a mercy-ruled 6 innings.
Altoona (as regional host) and Youngstown (as regional runner-up) will advance to the national tournament in Johnstown.
