Winners in Altoona and Buffalo


Wise Trailer Sales will return for their second consecutive national tournament as the Altoona representative. After winning the regular season, the Wises swept through the playoffs in 5 games, culminating with a 19-3 victory over Barton's Plumbing on Thursday night.


Royal Printing won game 1 of the finals 9-4 over Ken-Hy Auto thanks to an 8-run bottom of the first. Mike Gabriel picked up the win and Marc DiLeo had 3 hits.

In the second game, Cam Voss earned the win for Royal Printing and also had 4 hits with 2 RBIs and scored 2 runs. The Royals won 7-4 to sweep the series and advance to Johnstown for their second consecutive tournament and fourth overall. They are the first back-to-back champion from Buffalo since Bison Beverage in 2002-2003.


Regular-season and defending champions Martella's Pharmacy swept their opening round over Ophthalmic Associations by scores of 14-4, 8-5, and 10-0. Laurel Auto Group also swept their series with scores of 13-3, 11-5, and 11-1 over Paul's Renegades. Both teams will advance to the national tournament.

The two teams split the first two games of the best-of-5 championship series. Laurel Auto won the first game 16-8 on 18 hits. Ben Webb was 3-for-7 and scored 3 runs and Alex DiRienzo hit an inside-the-park home run for the Laurels. Martella's won the second game 8-7 in 12 innings. Jack Shirk singled home two runs in the top of the ninth with two outs to tie the game. He then tripled in the 12th inning and scored the winning run on Nathan Neiderhiser's single. Zach Martinelli recorded the win with 7-2/3 scoreless innings in relief.


The Des Plaines Patriots are returning to Johnstown to defend their first national championship from last year. The 17-7 Patriots lost in their league semi-finals to league champions Crystal Lake Cardinals. Pitcher Matthew Bell, infielder Alex Boos, and catcher Eric Schneider were selected to the Metro League All Star team. After pitching 16 innings in 3 starts, Bell has an 0.87 ERA, allowing only 3 hits and 1 walk with 8 strike outs and a 3-0 record. Boos is batting 0.500 with 11 hits and 6 RBIs in 8 games. Schneider batted 0.556 with 10 hits, 9 RBIs, 4 doubles, and 1 triple.
