Two-team series to be held in Union, NJ

Altoona Regional Cancelled

This year's Altoona Regional has been cancelled due to the withdrawl of the Schenectady franchise. In an interview with the Tribune Democrat, Schenectady franchise representative Bob Godlewski cited a lack of preparation as the cause for their withdrawl.

Due to the change, the representatives from New Brunswick and New York City will now meet for a Best-of-3 series at Kean University in Union, New Jersey. The teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday August 1st with a decisive third game (if necessary) on Sunday August 2nd. The winner will advance to the national tournament in Johnstown beginning on August 10th.

New York and New Brunswick last competed in a play-in series in 2009, which was won by the New Brunswick Matrix. The Matrix also swept a doubleheader over Brooklyn in 2010 to advance to Johnstown. New York advanced out of the 2012 Altoona Regional and placed third in 2013.

New Brunswick will be represented once again by the Matrix. The Matrix won the 2012 national championship and placed 4th last year with a 3-2 record. Coach Glenn Frederick's team has many returning players on their roster for this year, but are currently 11-14 in the ABCCL.

The New York franchise is expected to be represented by the FABL's Northeast Tribe. The Tribe has not competed in AAABA play before, but lead their Long Island league with a record of 21-4.
